In this engaging, interactive introduction to the art and craft of cinema, we’ll explore how everything we see and hear on-screen – the shots, the cuts, the sets and props, the music, the acting – comes together to tell compelling stories that make us laugh, cry, and even, yes, think. We’ll start by looking at scenes from famous (and a few infamous) films that illustrate key techniques of film style and storytelling. Then we’ll put this knowledge to use in a close analysis of the film masterpiece Citizen Kane.

Participants will emerge from this side trip as more sophisticated and astute film viewers and critics!
